VINTAGE KIMONO LAMPSHADES

We source vintage kimono pieces from Japan and re-cycle them to produce beautiful and unique vintage lampshades. A piece of art in its own right.

The kimono is the traditional clothing of Japan. The word "kimono" literally means a "thing to wear".

Kimono styles have changed significantly in Japan's history, and today there are many different types of kimono worn by men, women, and children. Choosing the appropriate type of kimono requires knowledge of the garment's symbolism and subtle social messages, reflecting age, sex, marital status, season of the year and the level of formality of the occasion.

The kimono is traditionally made of silk, silk brocade, silk crepes and satin weaves. The pattern reflects when the garment is worn, butterflies or cherry blossoms would be worn in spring, watery designs are common during the summer months, autumn motif is the russet leaf of the Japanese maple and for winter, designs such as bamboo, pine trees and plum blossoms were worn.

Our vintage lampshades are one offs, when they're gone they really are GONE!

We don’t have any products to show here right now.
